Class IV Laser Therapy

Class IV laser therapy delivers concentrated light into the tissues of the foot and ankle. We have two Class IV lasers: one for muscle and joint pain, and a second used only for fungal nails.

Commonly used for

• Muscle and joint pain, including heel, tendon and arthritis pain
• Recovery after foot surgery, where we often include laser sessions
• Fungal nails, with our dedicated nail laser
• Often combined with shockwave therapy

How it works

For muscle and joint pain, the laser uses photobiomodulation: specific wavelengths of light are delivered to the treatment area, gently warming the tissue and increasing local blood circulation. Fungal nails are treated with the separate nail laser.

What to expect

• First step: laser therapy is for established patients, so it starts with a consultation.
• During a session: you’ll feel a gentle warmth over the treated area. Everyone in the room wears protective eyewear.
• Afterward: no downtime; you can go straight back to your usual activities.
• For pain: each session is tailored to you, and the number of sessions is discussed at your visit.
• For fungal nails: usually about four sessions, one month apart.

Before your treatment

Tell us if you’re pregnant, have cancer or a suspicious spot near the treatment area, have a tattoo there, or take medicines that make your skin sensitive to light.
