Nexus Statements for Veterans

An independent medical opinion for your VA disability claim, based on a full exam, 3-D scan, gait analysis and X-rays in our office.

A nexus statement, often called a nexus letter or independent medical opinion (IMO), is a written medical opinion on whether your foot or ankle condition is connected to your military service. When the VA decides a disability claim, it asks whether it’s “at least as likely as not” that the two are connected. Every nexus evaluation is performed by Dr. Diltaj Singh, who writes and signs your statement.

Who it’s for

  • Veterans filing a new VA disability claim for a foot or ankle condition, or appealing one that was denied for lack of a medical link
  • Conditions that began during service, or that service made worse
  • Foot or ankle problems that may stem from another service-connected condition, such as a knee or back injury that changed how you walk

Conditions we commonly evaluate

  • Plantar fasciitis and heel pain
  • Flat feet
  • Ankle injuries and instability
  • Arthritis
  • Achilles tendon problems
  • Bunions and hammertoes
  • Nerve pain

What’s included

  • A 45-minute visit in our office
  • A 3-D laser scan of both feet
  • A comprehensive biomechanical exam with static and dynamic gait analysis: a pressure-sensing gait plate records how you stand, walk and balance, and maps the pressure under each foot
  • X-rays of both feet
  • A lower extremity exam and a review of your past medical history
  • A detailed written nexus statement, signed after your in-person exam, explaining the opinion and the medical reasoning behind it

Our process

  1. Before your visit: gather any records you have (see below).
  2. Your visit: about 45 minutes for the 3-D scan, gait analysis, exams and X-rays.
  3. Review: we compare your exam findings with your medical history and records.
  4. Your statement: delivered about 2 weeks after your appointment, ready to submit with your VA claim.

What to bring

Your driver’s license, plus any documentation you have, such as your DD-214, service treatment records, VA or private medical records about your feet or ankles, and VA decision letters about this condition. You can also email your records to info@singhfootdoc.com a day before your appointment.

Good to know

  • Independent: your statement is your examining doctor’s own medical opinion, based on your exams, history and records.
  • Same fee, any outcome: the fee is the same whatever the opinion concludes.
  • The VA decides: we can’t promise a particular conclusion or the outcome of your claim.
  • Medical only: we provide the evaluation and opinion; we don’t file claims or represent you with the VA.

Price

$1,000, which includes the 3-D scan, the comprehensive biomechanical exam with gait analysis, the X-rays and your written nexus statement.
